Justice Aderemi Annual Lecture Series (JAALS) Foundation

Welcome to JAALS Foundation

Nigeria’s justice system has a rich history of evolution, aiming to become a global model. With a highly esteemed independent judiciary that is continuously adapting, there are certainly challenges to overcome. The JAALS Foundation is dedicated to reforming the justice system, striving for a stellar reputation, top-rated judicial officers, standardized laws, and efficient practices that can capitalize on new opportunities.

To achieve these goals, radical changes are necessary, including the implementation of modern IT systems, streamlined processes, and appropriate infrastructure. Well-trained and equipped support staff are also essential for the system’s success.

Through a combination of traditional values and technological advancements, we are confident that the envisioned reforms will be realized. Our vision includes modernizing the justice system, advocating for legislative changes, improving prison conditions, promoting good governance, and ensuring government accountability.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we extend a warm welcome to you on our website. We hope you find the information valuable, and we are open to collaboration opportunities with you.

JAALS Conference 6.0

At least forty five percent of democracies around the world practice bicameralism whilst roughly fifty five percent have unicameral legislatures. Like us in Nigeria, virtually all federal entities have bicameral legislatures - Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Russia, Spain and the United States to name a few. Even some countries with unitary constitutions also have bicameral legislatures, the most prominent of which is the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and South Africa to name a few. If these countries are experiencing democratic recession or encountering bad governance, the explanatory factors may not necessarily be found in the type of legislative practice they have. It may just be on account of the deficit that has accompanied the wave of populism around the world or for other reasons unconnected to types of legislature.
