JAALS JUNIOR CONFERENCE 2.0

JAALS Junior Conference 2.0 | Theme: The Advent of AI: An Efficient Tool or the Erosion of Analytical Thinking?

The JAALS Foundation successfully hosted the 2nd Edition of the JAALS Junior Conference, bringing together students, young leaders, and critical thinkers to examine one of the defining questions of our time: Is Artificial Intelligence enhancing human potential or diminishing analytical thinking? Inspired by the legacy of Hon. Justice Pius Aderemi, the conference reinforced JAALS Foundation’s commitment to raising a generation dedicated to justice, good governance, leadership, and intellectual excellence through the JAALS Students Connect platform.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Tolu Aderemi emphasized that AI is a powerful tool capable of improving efficiency, refining ideas, and accelerating research, but warned against overdependence. He noted that the intellectual process of researching, analyzing, and synthesizing information is what sharpens the mind, and outsourcing these functions entirely to AI risks weakening critical thinking. He further stressed that while AI can imitate empathy, genuine human judgment, emotion, and responsibility remain irreplaceable. Echoing this sentiment, Ope Olugasa, CEO of LawPavilion, challenged participants to embrace technology as a support system rather than a substitute for human reasoning and decision-making.

The conference also celebrated academic excellence through the Wola Joseph-Condotti Essay Competition, which expanded from a state-focused initiative into a nationwide platform attracting entries from across Nigeria. The overall winner, Ifeanyichukwu Elechi of the University of Ibadan, received ?500,000; Gbemisola Adebambo of the University of Lagos emerged as first runner-up, winning ?200,000; while Loveson Anselm-Ahman of the University of Jos secured third place and ?100,000. JAALS Foundation extends its appreciation to Mrs. Wola Joseph-Condotti for her continued support of youth intellectual development.

JAALS Junior Conference 2.0 reaffirmed an important message: the future belongs to individuals who can effectively leverage technology without surrendering their capacity for critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment. As JAALS Foundation continues to create platforms for learning, engagement, and leadership development, this conference stands as another milestone in raising a generation that is technologically empowered yet intellectually uncompromising.
