Women of Awards

TheJAALS Women of Impact Award was established to recognize exceptional womenwhose leadership, courage, and service have transformed lives, broken barriers,and inspired generations. As part of the JAALS Foundation's commitment tocelebrating women throughout 2026, the award honours trailblazers whosecontributions continue to shape Nigeria's social, legal, economic, anddemocratic landscape.

Presentedat the 8th JAALS Conference, the award celebrates women whose influence extendsacross law, governance, healthcare, diplomacy, business, and public service.More than a recognition of titles or positions, the Women of Impact Awardacknowledges lives dedicated to excellence, integrity, and nation-building.

Amongthe distinguished honorees are Chief Folake Solanke, SAN, Nigeria'sfirst female Senior Advocate, whose remarkable legal career paved the way forgenerations of women in the legal profession; Mrs. Hairat Balogun, thefirst female Attorney General of Lagos State, the first femaleSecretary-General of the Nigerian Bar Association, and the first femaleChairman of the Body of Benchers, whose distinguished career has redefinedleadership in Nigeria's justice sector; and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa,Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), celebrated forher exceptional leadership in advancing the interests of Nigerians across theglobe and strengthening the nation's global engagement.

TheFoundation also honoured Mrs. Delayo Oriekun, the first female ViceChairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, in its 68-yearhistory; Mrs. Funmilayo Roberts and the first female Chairman of theNigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, for her pioneering leadership withinthe legal profession Mrs. Uchenna Akingbade, whose impactfulcontributions continue to inspire meaningful change amongst others.

Ina special posthumous recognition, the Foundation honoured Dr. Ameyo StellaAdadevoh for her extraordinary courage and selfless sacrifice during the2014 Ebola outbreak. Her decisive actions contained the spread of the virus inNigeria, saved countless lives, and remain one of the defining moments in thecountry's public health history.

TheJAALS Women of Impact initiative also celebrates global Nigerian icons such as Dr.Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization,alongside many other remarkable women whose work continues to inspire progressacross sectors and generations.

TheJAALS Women of Impact Award is more than a recognition, it is a celebration ofwomen whose courage has challenged the status quo, whose leadership has openeddoors for others, and whose legacy continues to shape a more just, inclusive,and prosperous society.
